Collaboration with Amanda Green

There are all kinds of things to do no matter where in Los Angeles you are. Some of them might be silly, while others, you might consider adventurous. Some of the available activities are not really traditional, and others might be considered to be a bit more intellectual. However, if you want to have the true Hollywood experience, you might want to surrender to the kitsch and plan to do a few of the tops things listed here when you are in Hollywood.

Forecourt of the Stars

One of the best things to do in Hollywood on vacation, especially if you are interested in the movie business, is to check out the Chinese Theatre. Outside of that imposing edifice, you will be able to put your feet and hands right where your favorite movie stars did. The famous sidewalk is located right on Hollywood Boulevard at Highland and Hollywood. If you manage to time your visit perfectly, you might also want to tour the original Chinese Theatre.

Walk of Fame

This is where you see the stars getting their own star on Hollywood Boulevard. See which ones you recognize among the variety of radio personalities, actors, and singers, and even other types of celebrities who have stars. You can read all about all of the interesting facts, controversies, and history of the Walk of Fame, as well as where to look to find the stars you are searching for.

For Kids of All Ages

If you have kids, or are a kid at heart yourself, you might want to consider getting out of the city for a bit and having some fun at Legoland. The one in Carlsbad is one of 6 amusement parks centered around the colorful building blocks that are spread throughout 5 countries. This one can be found less than 2 hours from Hollywood, and offers a variety of rides and activities for the entire family.

Hollywood Sign

One of the favorite things to do in Hollywood is to take pictures of the Hollywood Sign. You can get good ones from a vantage point on Highland and Hollywood. That said, there are many places where you can get a good view of it, but if you want getting good shots to be easy, you might want to take your pictures from the viewing bridges that are at the Hollywood and Highland complex that is adjacent to the Chinese Theatre.

Guided Walking Tours

Hollywood is quite a walkable city. It is loaded with historic markers all around to tell you what the history behind the different landmarks and buildings is. You can read all of them by yourself, but you won’t get the same experience and little stories that are inherent in one of the guided walking tours.

Hollywood Bowl

This landmark is a band shell shaped like a half dome. It has been the inspiration for many band shells across the globe. This band shell is situated in the largest amphitheater in the Untied States that is a natural formation. It has been host to some of the greatest musical acts in history and continues to host musical acts throughout the summer. You can just explore it or get tickets for a concert.

TV Shows

If you really want to immerse yourself in the culture of Hollywood, get tickets to the taping of your favorite TV show. This allows you to get close to the celebrities you love. These tickets are typically free and you can get them for game shows, talk shows, and even for sitcoms. Even when you visit during the off season, you can generally still get tickets to pilots or game shows.

Universal Studios Hollywood

This is a combination studio tour and movie based theme park. They have special effects shows that draw crowds just as much as the rides do. The Universal City Walk is adjacent and is also a popular area for shopping and entertainment. This is technically not located in Hollywood, but in a neighborhood known as Universal City. It is still only a 3 minute ride with the Metro to get there though, so it still counts as an attraction in Hollywood.

Warner Brother’s Studio Tours

This is another studio tour, but this one takes you through the actual sets of some of the most famous movies and TV shows. You can get a glimpse into how these shows are made and even explore iconic movie sets like those from Friends or Harry Potter! This is a must-do for any fan of film and television.

Griffith Observatory

This is an observatory that offers great views of Los Angeles as well as educational spaces and astronomy programs. It was featured in many classic films including James Dean’s Rebel Without a Cause. The observatory also features incredible exhibits about space exploration, telescopes to explore the night sky, and an array of other activities for guests to check out.

Visit Barnsdall Art Park

This unique park features a Frank Lloyd Wright designed theater, the Hollyhock House, a gallery, and some of the best views of Los Angeles. It’s also home to Saturday art classes for children and families, which makes it an ideal place for family activities. There is also free admission on Thursdays from 12-5pm! So make sure you check this out if you’re looking for some amazing sights in the area.

Visit Grauman’s Chinese Theatre

This iconic theatre is located right next to Hollywood Boulevard and has been standing since 1927. It features famous handprints, footprints and signatures of celebrities who have visited the cinema over the years. You can find stars like Marilyn Monroe, Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise and many more here! This is a great spot to take photos and explore the history of Hollywood.

Check Out Dolby Theater

Dolby Theater is the most famous theater in Hollywood and home to the Academy Awards. It’s also where many movie premieres take place, which means you have a chance to rub shoulders with some of the biggest stars in showbiz! There are also interactive museum displays that showcase the history of film, fashion, music and more. This is a great place for any film buff!

Take A Hike Up Runyon Canyon Park

If you’re looking for some fresh air and amazing views of Los Angeles then look no further than Runyon Canyon Park. This popular hiking destination offers spectacular views and trails that range from easy to difficult levels. So if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood and off the beaten path, this is the perfect spot.

These are just some of the many amazing attractions that Hollywood has to offer. From studio tours to art galleries and even hiking trails, there’s something for everyone in this vibrant city.
